The facility in Suluta used to be licensed and operated as an orphange. This is no longer the case. The children are still technically orphans, as most of them do not have mothers or fathers to care for them. However, in recent years, the government in Ethiopia has reduced favor for orphanages. The children also do not like being recognized in the community as orphans, beings there is a stigma attached to the word. Now, Hope for the Hopeless has changed our licensing status to a boarding school. With construction well under way and a prayer that it will be completed before the September school year begins, the children will no longer be bussed into Addis. They will be full time residents at a boarding school. The school will also be the first private school in Suluta that teaches in Amharic, the language of most Ethiopians. The language of Oromia is the only language in which school is currently taught in Suluta. This school will provide opportunity for many kids in the community as well as the "orphans" of Suluta. For non-orphan children, this will not be for boarding, only for day schooling. We are still accepting donations toward the completetion of construction. Also, we are praying for God to provide a volunteer teacher from America to teach ESL and/or theology.
No Longer an Orphanage...
